Frequently Asked Questions

What is the difference between Giclee printing and normal digital printing?

Giclee (French for "spray") refers to high-quality inkjet prints with pigmented inks on acid-free Fine Art papers. Unlike standard digital prints, Giclee printers use 8-12 colors instead of 4 (CMYK), achieve a significantly larger color gamut, finer gradations and archival capability of 100+ years instead of 10-20 years. The pigment inks are waterproof and lightfast.

What file formats and resolutions do you need?

Ideally TIFF or PSD files without compression (8 or 16 bit) with embedded color profile (Adobe RGB 1998 or ProPhoto RGB for maximum color gamut). Resolution should be at least 200 dpi, preferably 300 dpi at the desired print size. JPEGs at highest quality setting are also possible. For enlargements, we can upscale with specialized algorithms (Topaz, ON1) with minimal loss.

Which papers do you recommend?

This depends on the subject and desired look: For photography, we recommend Hahnemuhle Photo Rag 308g (velvety matte, neutral) or Baryta FB (glossy, classic photo look). For graphics and illustrations, Hahnemuhle German Etching (warm-toned, textured) is suitable. For canvas look, Hahnemuhle Canvas or Epson Premium Canvas. We are happy to send you a sample set - also with your image as a mini proof.

Do you offer framing?

Yes, we work with a specialized frame manufacturer and offer professional framing: Mat board from acid-free museum board, museum glass (99% UV protection, anti-reflective) or acrylic glass for large formats, high-quality wood or aluminum frames in many profiles and colors. Framing is done archivally - important for preserving the value of editions.

How does printing limited editions work?

For artists and photographers, we print limited editions according to your specifications: Sequential numbering (e.g., 3/25), space for your signature, certificate of authenticity with information on paper, print date and edition size. We archive your print files securely encrypted so reprints are color-identical even after years. On request, we can also apply your studio blind embossing stamp.

How quickly can I receive my prints?

Standard production time for Fine Art Prints is 3-5 business days. Express orders can often be completed within 24-48 hours (surcharge). Larger editions (50+ pieces) require correspondingly more time. Shipping is by Priority mail (1-2 days CH) or by courier on request. Collection in Hunenberg is possible at any time.
